On the topic of not posting for a while, getting an education is a bitch and I apologize.
On the topic of music, the latest release on Sound Pellegrino was released on Beatport this week. You know we here at electroTO love that SP sound, so we were no less excited for this release than any of their other releases this year. For those who don’t know the release was a five track EP by a dude named “Gucci Vump.” The SP crew tried to do a little subliminal messaging to have some people believe it was Tiesto as a joke but for now all indications lead to Brodinski, more than likely without the aid of Yuksek. [Just my own little investigation here..I noticed all the logos on Brodinski's myspace look a whole lot like the SP logo. Then again it could just be coincidence but my way is more interesting.] Personally I couldn’t be bothered by who it is and in fact I’d find it a lot more exciting if it wasn’t an alias at all and Gucci Vump was a new artist, but that’s not the case.
The thing about this whole hunt for the true identity of Gucci Vump is that the music got lost in the search. Too many people were wondering who the dude was, instead of wondering about the quality of the music. That’s the thing about hype – it can sell anything, but the music ended up being pretty top notch, so there’s no complaints from me. The whole EP has a sort of Hebrew feel to it, with all the samples and such that he used with the exception of the sample in Boogieman although that too is debatable because I’m almost certain that it’s supposed to be a ghost. The Downtown (1/2 of Renaissance Man) remix of Boogieman is easily the best track on the EP and has a contagious bounce at a lower bpm and a welcome step back from the relative intensity of the original.
P.S. I highly recommend you purchase the Downtown Remix as well as the one from L-VIS 1990 and the two other tracks on beatport.
