Talk about a bitter-sweet post.
Yes, I’m ecstatic to be able to share with you the newest disco-house masterpiece by Aeroplane entitled “We Can’t Fly”, which will appear on the duo’s full length album (by that same name), set to drop on September 6th. However, this comes with a side of very unfortunate, and saddening news — the Belgian DJ/producing tandem have called it quits; they will be going their separate ways after a three year run. Stephen Fasano was reportedly the one who walked out, and Vito De Luca will proceed with the project on his own accord.
This news had floated around the web since mid-June, and we were honestly flabbergasted as to how it could be true given its peculiar timing. With a widely applauded 500th Essential Mix on BBC, a more-than-promising upcoming album, and an international cult-like following that is ever-growing, it just didn’t add up. Regardless, this is an incredible loss to the electronic music community, and time will only tell whether Vito can single-handedly steer the ship. For the moment, be sure to bask in one of the final works from this magical production duo, not only for nostalgia’s sake, but because it’s one of the most flawless summer tunes available right now, the Extended Drum Mix of “We Can’t Fly”.
