Before Christmas, we were tipped off by the boys at Turbo to keep an ear out for a techno producer from Manchester who goes by The Countach. Sure enough, their prophecy has wrung true, as Matt Walsh’s Clouded Vision imprint (which we’ve praised here before) has picked up the Melvin Never Made It EP, amounting to one splendid original, and four equally pleasing adaptations that represent highly varied electronic soundscapes.
The piece on the EP that has my heart lassoed at the moment is the remix by a Frenchman who goes by Remain — a much more mellow, melodic, nudisco treatment that casually coaxes you into aural obsession. I gladly will rate this one on the top shelf right beside Mr. Alkan’s second most recent rework that we debuted here not too long ago. The lead synth is so subtle, unimposing, yet unmistakable, as it drives the nine minute arrangement in the most inspirational way possible.
No word of a lie, it’s songs like these that make blogging and music appreciation well worth it. Big ups to the boys at Clouded Vision for assembling this entire package, and job well done to Remain for having the technical capacity, and creative ingenuity to construct this gem. We’ll see you guys in the top 10 labels of 2011. Also be on the look out for The Countach’s Learn The Dance EP out in July on Join Our Club.
