Yeh Come Dance

March 26, 2012

What a couple of months it’s been for the proliferation of good music, both locally and internationally. Indeed, I’m willing to wager that forthcoming middle-school history books will soon tell tales of the first quarter of 2012, labeling it as an incredible one for all strands of dance music, and perhaps none more than this little ditty by Mr. Gerry Read, for folks at Delsin.

Certainly, one of our uncontested early favorites for top extended-player contention, this four track release is one of the shining examples of electronic music’s true virtue. As close to a five star rating as you like, the title track, Yeh Come Dance, is basically flawless, pristine, impeccable techno.

Mountains

March 21, 2012

A refined serving of house groove from the Berlin-based Niall Mannion, whom you may know as Mano Le Tough. His latest, a three-track extended player for Permanent Vacation, which gets along quite nicely, starting with the title track “Mountains” — floating forward by way of a brash lead synth, an orb-like bell progression, and a yearning, zombie-like sigh layered on top.

Late Nights

March 21, 2012

Amidst the firestorm that has been the past month or so, we managed to somehow forget to share this with you, so, heartfelt apologies for the late pass if you’ve been bumping it for a minute already. The man responsible is our longtime amigo, whom you may know as Deebs. Mentioning our dude today is sorta convenient in any event, amidst some fat & juicy rumours that he’s going to be sharing a bit of free material in the very near future, so stay tuned for that.

Space

March 20, 2012

Yet another tasty morsel from the seemingly untouchable UK duo that is Joy O & Boddika, this one currently tabbed as “Space”. I can only imagine it’ll follow in the footsteps of the Froth/Mercy 12″, ultimately being granted released on the pair’s still relatively new label, Sunklowun. Although, there’s nothing to suggest that a release will happen any time soon.

Across The Sky

March 12, 2012

A big day for the Southern-California based chapter of the locally founded and operated Faceless Management — of course, we’re referring to the unveiling of the Across The Sky EP by Urulu, which was released today via Exploited Records. The three-track extended-player is top class sample-laden house groove, primed for the dance floor, the lounge, and the shallow end. Our pick of the litter goes by We Belong (Together), with the title track not too far behind.

Cokewave

March 12, 2012

Another proud day for the well-walked paths of the Toronto underground, overseeing the birth of a duo who go by Ambalance, which from what I gather, is comprised of XI and Skeleton Bone. Causing quite the stir at the moment, is a three-track EP being made available by way of their Bandcamp page, featuring three emotive, spaced-out, low-BPM vestiges that hover comfortably in the realm of early-morning coked-out ambiguity. Candy-floss ambient pads, and smart percussion do well to explore a new and highly sought-after electronic terrain.

Another Night

March 5, 2012

What can you say about local quartet Azari & III  that hasn’t been said. I know that’s an oft-used phrase, but it really could not be any more true in the case of these home-grown all-stars. In the latest instance, we’d like to draw your attention to a rendition of a relatively old tune, Into The Night, which we in-fact spewed our guts out over some sixteen months ago. Back then, it was the Nico Jaar remix that tickled our fancy (appearing on a splendid EP for Scion AV), while today, it’s a lower profile cut by an Australian duo that go by Softwar. No doubt, it’s been a while since we’ve drawn light on a left-field, off-the-map type artist, but when you listen to this one, you’ll no doubt see what we saw, or hear what we heard, rather.
