For our new readers…

What’s Good Wednesday!? (–proper noun) pronounced: whatsgoodwednesday
1. A very useful and reliable resource that proceeds to document Toronto’s electronic music events each and every weekend, 2. A weekly post that can be found exclusively on electroTO, 3. The highlight of many people’s Wednesday afternoon/evening.

On to the good stuff…

As if the incredible emergence of warmer climes isn’t enough, the city is featuring a very nice assembly of events this weekend which will allow you to take full advantage. This past summer, much of the electronic world fell in love with the Toronto-based duo of Dinamo Azari and Alixander III, by way of their magnetic throwback, entitled Reckless For Your Love. This past October, Azari & III released their Hungry For The Power EP on nu-disco sensation Cosmo Vitelli’s label, I’m a Cliche. The EP features three original productions, as well as guest remixes by label-boss Vitelli, alongside Matias Aguayo, and Runaway.

Azari & III have an undeniable gift. Their production ingenuity stems from their ability to coalesce haunting rhythms, alluring vocals and the most tasteful instrumental cues. Their work, Manhooker, presented in the video above is yet another shining example of this. The video dropped over the past couple of days, and has been garnering some much-desereved attention. Do yourselves a favour and trek down the Hungry For The Power EP (HERE); you’ll be very happy you did. Also, keep your ear to the ground for some significant releases from Azari & III, set to go down in the near future (rumour has it, some of our favorite labels are involved).

What’s Good Wednesday!?

February 24, 2010

Simply put, our city has been on musical crack lately. Big time artists, from all branches of electronic music, have been flocking to our city’s finest establishments, resulting in some of the biggest parties in recent memory. This weekend is no different. It starts off big and wonky on Thursday, at The Social with 12th Planet and company. Next, on Friday, progressive/tech house legend D. Ramirez makes an appearance at This Is London.

Now Saturday, it deserves a paragraph of its own. With international sensation, Vitalic, set to hit up Wrongbar, you would think that would be enough — but no, not even. German techno royalty, Marc Romboy, will be throwing it down at FootWork, and local heroes Azari & III will be spinning at an underground warehouse near you (TBA). Enjoy everyone.

Brodinski @ Wrongbar

As if Steve Angello, Switch and company weren’t enough last weekend, the city and its lovely promoters have decided to spoil us once again (and there’s truly something for everyone’s musical taste). For the Dubsteppers, we suggest you head down to Sound Academy on your Saturday evening to check out UK sensation Rusko, with Krazy Baldhead and company. For the Techno crowd, Nic Fanciulli coming off his Igloofest performance in Montreal, will be at Footwork on your Friday night. And finally, for the nuanced tropical-house enthusiast, Wrongbar Saturday’s has perhaps the biggest booking of 2010 thus far, namely Louis Brodinski. Ahh, what else can we say. Have a good weekend errbody.

What’s Good Wednesday!?

September 9, 2009

Toronto International Film Festival

This week’s edition of What’s Good Wednesday!? is absolutely jammed packed with events in light of the Toronto International Film Festival. Because of the total log-jam of talent, we’re going to switch up this week’s format, and outline a headliner for each day this weekend — Thursday to Sunday. With headlining names like AC Slater, The Twelves and DJ Spun , this sporadic collection of events was the only feasible way to publicize the incredible electronic agenda that’s in-store for our city, in lieu of the TIFF festivities. In addition to the surge of musical talent, the majority of the host venues will be operating under extended (4am) bar licenses — every ravers dream. Enjoy, everybody.

electroTO Presents Drop The Lime

The Headliner: electroTO Presents TRASH Feat. Drop The Lime, Sat. @ Augusta House

For the second consecutive week, us here at electroTO have focused our attention on throwing one of the dopest parties in the city. If you weren’t able to tear the roof off with us and Jokers of the Scene last weekend, you’re going to want to alter your decision making process and check out one of the craziest/hardest electro acts in existence, Drop The Lime. This week we are proud to announce the valuable support of Toronto electro-scene boss Cody LeKush, as well as our friends over at The Mansion. This means the place will be packed to the mo’fuckin rafters, so get there early for the cheap dranks. (Psst…keep your ear to the ground for some post-event madness)

The Opener: Azari & III, Violca, YPro, Mr. Charlton & DJ Cal, Fri. @ Mod Club

Our friends at FAK really know how to put together a world-class bill. This Friday at the Mod Club, they’re hosting their “Voyeur” party with a long list of local talent, clearly outlined above. The most notable act on the list is the Toronto-based duo Azari & III, who in my humble estimation are two of the most underrated cats in the scene. Their original productions are ridiculous, and their live sets known to be equally skillful. Moreover, with close to 6000 Facebook invites on the event page, we’d recommend you creep through the Mod Club doors early, and check out each of these fine disc jockeys from beginning to end.

The Opener: Blatta & Inesha, Sat. @ The Social

It pains us that two of our favorite Italian DJ’s are in town the same night as Drop The Lime (another Italian talent), but hey, that’s just the way it is. Quite simply, Blatta & Inesha will throw it down Saturday, and permanently induced deafness is not out of the question. Our friends at The Faktory are the brains behind this operation, and they have promised a couple nifty maneuvers for the after-party, which is set to take place at Studio 204 (Queen & Spadina). All I can say is, this is going to be a Saturday evening for the ages.

The Opener: Golden Gloves & Medley, Thurs. @ Strangelove

There is no better way to start your weekend than with electroTO favorites, Ben and Kevin, of the DJ tandem Golden Gloves. Their original productions have been well documented on this space, and their live acts have been well recorded on our live Twitter feed. Bottom line, these guys know how to dominate a dancefloor, no matter the occassion — The Jon’s weekly DLYF event seems like a match made in electronic heaven. Don’t sleep on your Thursday, head down to College and rock out with our homeboys.

See You Saturday,
