Bordello

There were very few who believed that we could follow up our inaugural Summer Session event with a second dose on a similar level; but, just one week ago at Riva Supper Club, we did just that. We managed to enlist local DJ/Producer, now of international fame for his collaboration with Alixander III, namely Dinamo Azari, and he did not disappoint. As always, we positioned Dinamo with incomparable opening acts by the ever-so-talented boys from Faceless Management, and the rest is, as they say, history.

As was the case for the first edition of our Summer Sessions event, we will once again be uploading the top-notch live-mix recordings from each and every DJ act that performed. The live-mix recordings will drop every Wednesday, so as to commemorate our monthly Summer Session night (which goes down on the last Wednesday of every month this summer). The Summer Session for May featured the likes of  Meech, Golden Gloves, Bordello and Dinamo Azari — so be sure to tune in to this space every Wednesday for the latest set release.

DINAMO AZARI | electroTO Summer Session: May

The set itself is sheer brilliance, plain and simple. It begins with some of the most subtle grooves I’ve ever heard, eventually giving way to a number of the biggest acid techno cuts known to music aficionados. This one is as advertised; one of rarest examples of unbridled mixing talent and impeccable song selection.

BORDELLO | electroTO Summer Session: May

This week’s edition of the Summer Session mix series features the virtually flawless track selection and steadfast ear-to-ear mixing of eTO fan-favorite, Bordello. Although this latest set is, to paraphrase his own suggestion, a tad saturated with above-the-surface material; in actuality, it’s textbook peak-hour work that balances the always conflicting realms of obscurity and mass appeal. What we mean is, Bordello consults the most trusted names in house & techno, from the highest ranks in electronic production, and does so in a way that really works for the average listener.

GOLDEN GLOVES | electroTO Summer Session: May

If you were lucky enough to know of Golden Gloves during their thrashing electro days, you will certainly know that the duo have seemingly transformed their sound as of late into something far more seasoned, yet equally enthralling. The duo of Ben and Kev now make a habit of descending into the depths of tech house & deep house, often being sought out as the local leaders in this lucrative genre. This live mix from our last Summer Session event is a testament to their blooming sound, and draws the tangent for their craft.

MEECH | electroTO Summer Session: May

The May edition of electroTO’s Summer Sessions was kicked off by Venezuelan-born Michel Fournier, a local favorite who has seen his musical sympathies evolve significantly over the past year. The following set speaks to Meech’s maturation as a DJ, combining unassuming groovy house vibes, with his vintage dance-floor incubators. This one is diverse, with unique low-bpm selections, so burn it on a CD-R, and bring it along for wherever life takes you.

As promised, we here at electroTO feel that it’s necessary to go beyond simple event-hosting, and we’re taking it to the next level by making the evening’s memorable musical accompaniment available for your downloading pleasure. As we have advertised over the past little while, we will be uploading the top-notch live-mix recordings from each and every DJ act that performs at “electroTO’s Summer Sessions”. The live-mix recordings will drop every Wednesday, so as to commemorate our monthly Summer Session night (which goes down on the last Wednesday of every month this summer). The Summer Session for April featured the likes of Bordello, Meech, Golden Gloves, and Rynecologist — so be sure to tune in to this space every Wednesday for the latest set release.

This post not only brings us an immense sense of pride and joy but also a sense of relief for finally getting it out there. London, Ontario has become a hot spot for electronic music and along with Golden Gloves and John Roman, Gingy and Bordello have aided the spread in popularity in a very big way.

Gingy and Bordello and the masterminds behind Vaporizer, the big room track that has graced countless youtube videos, charts and even Brodinski’s Mystery Mix. This power house of a track has also warrented huge remixes already from the likes of Rynecologist and the ever talented NT89 (which we haven’t heard yet but can only assume is massive). There is really nothing to say about this track that could do it justice. It’s one of the biggest things that you’ll ever own and has torn up every locale we’ve heard it played out. Enjoy this electroTO exclusive as a gift from us to you, our beloved fans.

Drive Like You Disco

November 26, 2009

Testarossa Overdrive

You know it’s a great day in the world of electronic music when our homeboy Bordello provides us with an only-for-electroTO minimix. The montage is called “Drive Like You Disco” and is meant to provide the musical accompaniment to a fairly prolific (and well-documented) joy-ride/car-crash that went down on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, in 2006. Bordello’s mix is meant to parallel the events that happened on the night in question, where a Ferrari Enzo was left in ruins, and mafia involvement loomed.

01 KAVINSKY // Flashback [Record Makers]
02 DAS GLOW // Lite Brite (Strip Steve Remix) [Institubes]
03 DAFT PUNK // Da Funk [Virgin]
04 KAVINSKY // Grand Canyon [Record Makers]
05 SEBASTIEN TELLIER // Kilometer (Aeroplane “Italo 84″ Remix) [Record Makers]
06 BURNS // Heartbeats [2112 Records]
07 DAS GLOW // I Want To Wake Up With You [Vulture]
08 SIRIUSMO // High Together [Monkeytown]
09 STRIP STEVE // Point Break [Boys Noize]
10 FEADZ // Constant Ovulation [Ed Banger]
11 SHADOW DANCER // Drivetime [Boys Noize]

Running Time – 32:21
Quality – 192kbps

Get It Started

November 5, 2009

Boys Noize hits London, ON tonight in a continuation of his Power Tour that we mentioned earlier in the week, and the night is set to really go off. Those attending this one won’t regret arriving early as they’ll be treated to sets by Bordello, Golden Gloves and a Gingy/John Roman combo, all of whom are native to London and none of whom are strangers to electroTO. In anticipation, we’re dropping you a track from Golden Gloves and one from John Roman to give you a little sneak peak of what you might see before 1am when Boys Noize hits the stage at the London Music Hall.

Firstly, we have Golden Gloves, the duo of Ben and Kevin, whose distinct sound has really set them apart from a lot of the local production powers of the GTA.  Their track Casablanca has been played out by notable figures such as Blatta and Inesha, and their consistency suggests that they’re bound to receive more of the same international attention in the future. This tune, “Next To Nothing” is one of their newer tracks that’s been making some noise.

Golden Gloves – Next To Nothing

Following the set by Golden Gloves will be the tag team duo of John Roman and Gingy. Word on the street has it that the two have a track that they worked on together that they want to debut and what better time to do it than to the bass thirsty fans that will converge on the London Music Hall tonight? JR is getting some serious attention as of late, with fans ranging from London, Ontario all the way to Sydney, Australia. The recent news that his Nadastrom remix was charted by Brodinski confirms that he’s only getting bigger, and a blow-up is on the way. Here’s a tune that he sent out via his Facebook, Twitter etc. earlier this week, which has him trying his hand at the extremely popular disco trend but still putting that magic John Roman touch on it.
