Boys Noize Records

Kleine Traume

October 17, 2010

If the most recent Boys Noize release wasn’t epic enough for you punks, the label has just released another hybrid electro-techno gem from German heavy weight D.I.M. This track entitled Kleine Traume has all the makings of something special. The distorted synth progressions and clean percussion phrasing give you a combination of bounce and groove that is typical of the Boys Noize impresario, but instead from his well-established, right-hand man. Rumour has it this track was the talk of Electric Zoo, where it made its most public debut. Since then, its popularity has spread like wildfire, and we’re sure that this well put-together EP will catapult BNR into top label contention at year’s end.

The track has potential in the car, on the subway, or any other scenario that would put you in a situation where you need a massive energy boost (assuming you dont have the $11 dollars necessary to buy a Booster Juice with an energy boost). Sadly, my producer senses are tingling and I feel like it is only a matter of time before someone slows down those synth loops and slaps a dubstep bass line on this puppy. I’m a closet fan of dubstep so I’m interested in said prophecy, but for the time being I’ll enjoy this one as it stands as I hope you will as well.

Vaporizer

August 7, 2010

One Toronto-based duo has made it their vocation to bring techno to the masses. Tonight marks a very important night in the lives of both Gingy & Bordello, and it doubles as an opportunity for all electronic music fans in Toronto to rejoice as well. Tonight, of course, is the Vaporizer EP Release Party at the often-imitated, never-duplicated, Faktory Saturday, hosted at The Social (1100 Queen Street West). A celebration of masterful production, incomparable deejaying, and a much anticipated release on August 13th (Beatport).

Vaporizer is a single that has floated around exclusive circles since it was originally produced in the fall of 2009, gradually picking up steam, and eventually making appearances on several notable mixes, including Brodinski’s widely acclaimed Mystery Mix Volume II. The track was soon picked up by UK-based record-label This Is Music, the taste-makers responsible for the release of DJ Mujava’s Township Funk, as well as Boy 8-Bit’s two latest EPs.

This marks a huge breakout for both Gingy & Bordello, and also represents a giant leap in Toronto’s unfaltering climb toward electronic relevance, on a global stage. With dudes like Rynecologist garnering international attention on BNR, Ed Banger (and soon to be Turbo), we’re finally beginning to see some much-deserved international acclaim for our local talent. On that note, be sure to check the preview of the Rynecologist remix, as well as the original, directly below.

EP Tracklist:

A1: Gingy & Bordello – Vaporizer (Original Mix)
A2: Gingy & Bordello – Partikal (Original Mix)

I Am Europe

August 2, 2010

The latest edition to the Boysnoize Records catologue is a release from electronic music’s misfit maestro, known as Chilly Gonzales. Part pianist, part composer, part rapper, part producer, part actor, part director, part self-absorbed drama queen — Gonzales is one of the most unique and identifiable personalities in electronic music today. Moreover, his allegiance with Boy Noize goes further than this EP, as the two have collaborated on Chilly’s upcoming full-length album, with Alex lending a helpful hand in the production room.

The I Am Europe EP release that we’re flaunting, features a very classic original version by Gonzales, in addition to some ingenius remixing by Claude von Stroke, and others. One of the others is Boysnoize Record’s thrash-techno prodigy, Djedjotronic, a dude who we’ve bragged about before. His adaptation of the track combines some very cool minimal elements off the start, with some more traditional French funked-out groove later on, and a side-order of Gonzales’ distorted vocal (for better or worse). Bottom line, we’re continuing to endorse Djedjo as one of the most talented young dj/producers in the world, and the fact that he was able to showcase this on a Gonzales track makes for some good writing/reading/listening.

Top Ten Labels Of 2009

January 3, 2010

Sound Pellegrino

The top 10 labels of 2009 were determined by our trusty crew, through the careful consideration of a number of variables, and were not assessed exclusively on the label’s quantity of releases, or the specific artist’s notoriety. We feel very strongly about these rankings, and are convinced that this is the precise order of the quality hierarchy in the electronic music industry today. We hope you enjoy.

Top 10:

01 | Sound Pellegrino

Est: 2009
Headquarters: Paris, France
# of 2009 Releases: 9
Notable Artists: Gucci Vump, Harvard Bass, Renaissance Man, Momma’s Boy
Website

What can we really say that hasn’t already been said about the emergence of this Parisian electronic superpower. With widely publicized mysterious aliases, totally innovative sounds, and nine EPs in our top 40, there is really no denying that Teki and Orgasmic’s Sound Pellegrino is electroTO‘s label of 2009. It’s truly rare for a label to be born, and skyrocket to greatness as SP has — but it’s the only logical result when you make nothing but quality electronic music.

02 | Turbo Recordings

Est: 1998
Headquarters: Montreal, Canada
# of 2009 Releases: 17
Notable Artists: Tiga, Proxy, Jori Hulkkonen, Brodinski, Mike Mind
Website

Forget our National hockey team, or our symbolic national animals (ie. goose, moose, etc.) , Canada’s most notable point of pride should be the techno/pseudo-acid/house label known as Turbo Recordings. If not for the painstaking delay of the Proxy LP release, this label could well have claimed our top spot — luckily, EP’s such as Peanuts Club and the Zombielicious Remixes did make it to release.

03 | Boysnoize Records

Est: 2005
Headquarters: Berlin, Germany
# of 2009 Releases: 11
Notable Artists: Boys Noize, Shadow Dancer, Djedjotronic, Housemeister
Website

A blooming roster of young, talented DJ/Producers creating some of the biggest tunes in the industry — that pretty much sums up the goings-on at Boysnoize headquarters. It all starts with album boss Alex Ridha (Boys Noize) and his Power LP, which shocked the world with tracks like Starter, Jeffer, and of course Kontact Me.

04 | Made To Play

Est: 2005
Headquarters: Berlin, Germany
# of 2009 Releases: 9
Notable Artists: Jesse Rose, Riva Starr, Oliver $, Zombie Disco Squad
Website

A very “sexy” pick, if you will. Don’t let your unfamiliarity fool you, Jesse Rose’s Made To Play features some of the biggest supersleepers in all of house music, and a quick listen to their Scion CD sampler will leave you convinced. Riva Starr and Oliver $ are set to have monster 2010′s, and are names destined for the largest font on an event poster near you.

05 | Phantasy Sound

Est: 2007
Headquarters: England
# of 2009 Releases: 5
Notable Artists: Erol Alkan, Boris Dlugosch, Riton, Primary 1
Website

Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound featured some massive 2009 releases including Dlugosch’s Bangkok EP and Riton & Primary 1′s Who’s There? EP, in addition to the corresponding Who’s There? Remix EP.  Add on to that, the AA24/7 EP that dropped at the very tail end of 2008 and you have one of the most impressive production line-ups of the year.

06 | Dirtybird

Est: 2005
Headquarters: San Francisco, United States
# of 2009 Releases: 18
Notable Artists: Claude Von Stroke, Style of Eye, Tim Green, Riva Starr
Website

Mr. Von Stroke’s San Fran-based label is perhaps the most tech-oriented organization of the top-10, and they certainly used that to their advantage. Dirtybird’s strong 2009 was highlighted by CVS’s own full length album entitled Bird Brain, which has been described as a “diverse menagerie of sounds”, and ranks near the top in our 2009 LP rankings.

07 | Deadfish Audio

Est: 2008
Headquarters: London, England
# of 2009 Releases: 5
Notable Artists: Mowgli, Solo, Camel, Round Table Knights
Website

2009 saw the boys at Deadfish build upon the momentum they created at the end of 2008, lead by their talisman and label boss Mowgli and his flurry of releases. Both the Nu Skool EP and the Paris To London EP, by Mowgli, perfectly showcased Deadfish’s unique brand of house music, and solidified the labels position in the Top-10.

08 | Dubsided

Est: 2003
Headquarters: London, England
# of 2009 Releases: 7
Notable Artists: Jesse Rose, Renaissance Man, Nadastrom, Duke Dumont
Website

Switch’s label got off to a great start in 2009 with the release of productions such as Jesse Rose’s widely applauded LP entitled What Do You Do If You Don’t?, as well as Renaissance Man’s Spraycan EP. Both of these works were masterful in their own right, and did very well in our LP and EP rankings respectively.

09 | Nightshifters

Est: 2008
Headquarters: Berlin, Germany
# of 2009 Releases: 7
Notable Artists: AC Slater, Rob Threezy, Udachi, Hostage
Website

A very sharp, genre-agnostic label, based out of Germany that features tunes with “elements of B’more, Rave, Baile funk, Electro, Dubstep, House, Bassline, Drum and Bass” and the list goes on. It’s just this dynamic and diverse approach to electro that impressed us each time we checked out a new Nightshifters release.

10 | Trouble & Bass Recordings

Est: 2007
Headquarters: Brooklyn, United States
# of 2009 Releases: 7
Notable Artists: Drop The Lime, Mikix The Cat, AC Slater, Udachi
Website

When we brought in Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime (Trouble & Bass label boss) to Toronto in mid-august, we were treated to a wide array of T&B exclusives, and once those tunes finally made their way to release, they did not fail to impress. The Set Me Free 12″ and the Youth Blood 12″ both featured some quality remixing from a wide array of artists.

Power World Tour

November 3, 2009

Power World Tour

Our introduction into the Blogosphere’s “Century Club” (our 100th post) truly could not have come at a more opportune time. Post number 100 somehow coincided with the most anticipated world tour since Justice made their rounds as a part of “A Cross The Universe”, which took place almost exactly a year ago — the tour that we speak of is the Boys Noize Power World Tour.

In somewhat of a surprising development, Boys Noize will make two stops in Southern Ontario. The first of which will take place TONIGHT, as a part of Timebomb Tuesday, located at Tattoo Rock Parlour on 567 Queen Street West. Meanwhile, the second date is set to go down Thursday, in one of Canada’s electronic strongholds, London, Ontario. The London date will take place at the notorious London Music Hall.

Both of these dates also feature a glut of local talent and electroTO faves. In particular, at the London show, you will see the likes of Bordello, Golden Gloves, John Roman, and Gingy. In Toronto, our homeboy Nasty Nav will assume the crowd warming duties. For more info on both of these events, see below!

Boys Noize — Thursday @ London Music Hall (London, ON)

In the spirit of our 100th post, we have a gift for our dedicated following, and it conveniently maintains the Boys Noize theme. This track would likely garner several votes as one of the biggest live tunes of all time. For you, we have “Kontact Me”. Happy 100!

Brite Glow

October 29, 2009

Das Glow x Strip Steve

The Lite Brite Remixes collection, released on Institubes earlier this month, had no shortage of creative talent; however, the one rendition that seemingly stood out from the rest was the Strip Steve workout. On the surface, this Institubes & BNR collaboration is rife with big name cred (namely, Das Glow and Strip Steve), and you will be happy to hear that the product coming through the speakers is proportionate to that lofty billing.

Just a heads-up, the track itself doesn’t particularly bang, but it is all things free-wheeling French-funk that will almost certainly lead to uncontrollable head-nodding and toe-tapping. The imagination these dudes have, to pull together such unconventional sounds, and churn out a super-chill, yet totally d-floor friendly tune, is beyond me. Definitely take the time to peep this one, and the full remix album, available HERE.

Death Of Cornelius

September 19, 2009

Bob Cornelius Rifo

It’s been well-documented over the past week that Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, of Bloody Beetroots fame, put his personal touch on the Boys Noize & Erol Alkan collaboration “Death Suite”. We here at electroTO resisted the temptation of posting the original track, due to clear indications from the artist, but the edit by Mr. Rifo (or Bobermann) is certainly fair-game.

Upon its release, Death Suite was notorious for it’s unconventional (though beautiful) Acid House make-up. Rifo effectively tones down the experimental aspect, and in typical Beetroots fashion, makes it a d-floor weapon. The first thing that jumped out, was the addition of a Proxy-like snare that, in my humble opinion, worked miracles for the piece. Bobermann timed his samples perfectly, his drops are graciously unsubtle, and enough of the original is left in tact that you’re not left scratching your head. Quite plainly, the track is absolutely dirty.

No Machine Too Old

July 20, 2009

Djedjotronic

Regardless of the fact that BNR033 came out over a month ago, it’s my musical duty to prescribe top-notch electronic chunes for the masses. Djedjotronic’s exquisite remix of The Faint’s “Machine In The Ghost” has always tickled my fancy; however, that tickle has gradually developed into an uncontrollable (and widely publicized) lust. What I’m basically saying is — the song is an absolute d-floor destroyer and you’re depriving yourself if it’s not in your arsenal.

In a brief sidenote, I’d like to take a moment to endorse Mr. Djedjotronic and tell the world that this kid is one of BNR’s most gifted up-and-coming talents. He began his career under the tutelage of his now close friend Popof, and has a background rich in tech house. Djedjo and Popof released a couple of collaborations  together and toured under the moniker The Wee-Kids. Djedjotronic’s debut EP ‘Turn Off’ was released in 2007 on Level75 Records, garnering wide acclaim from electronic heavyweights, including Busy-P, Justice, Oliver Huntemann and Mr Oizo. It’s been a rocket-ride up from there, and he isn’t even 25 — look out.

Slim Down

July 7, 2009

D.I.M. & TAI

There is simply nothing better then being able to post a track as highly anticipated as this one–  because it need  virtually no preface at all. Ladies and gentlemen, BNR 035 is here, and the infamous “Lyposuct” has arrived. For those living under a rock, Boys Noize Records’ heavyweight D.I.M. has teamed up with BNR newcomer TAI, to bring us one of the most convulsive bangers of the summer.

Embrace the aural psychosis that ensues, and enjoy in full 320kbps.

Ladies and gentlemen. If you have not seen the above clip, you are seriously depriving yourself, because even in the quality of a Youtube video, every sane mind knows the new D.I.M. track (set to be released at the end of this summer) entitled “Lyposuct” will be the next big thing. The track has been publicly endorsed by Boys Noize himself,  who started hyping the track via his Twitter account, some earlier this week (or it may have been last week I don’t remember).

Anyways, when we’re not dancing around old lady’s cars, The Vamp and I are searching for the music that will touch your soul and more importantly music that is necessary to the survival of any electro lover. That being said, 160kbps was the best we could do. While no one is a fan of low quality tracks, at least you can have it there to make your mouth water and give you something to live for. The banger from the German producer comes out on Boys Noize Records July 20/09, and from what I hear, the Noob remix is even better–  how is that even possible?

D.I.M. & TAI – Lyposuct (set rip) – Enjoy Responsibly (160kpbs).
