Boys Noize

Berlin Tegel

August 1, 2011

Boysnoize Records electro prodigy Housemeister proudly released the music video for the track Ady Gil, from his Music Is Awesome album that dropped in late May. Housi explained that the video isn’t too over the top, rather just a compilation of some dope take-off vids from his favorite airport in Germany, Berlin Tegel. Apparently this specific airport is being closed in 2012, so this montage acts as the unofficial tribute to it’s closing.

Housi’s album is available on all digital download platforms, and the Music Is Awesome remix EP features the likes of Boys Noize, Cosmin TRG, and Feadz, among other. Also, the album will be available in an 80′s style picturedisk with seven tracks on each side — the ideal collectors item for the hard BNR fan.

Decadent Display

April 22, 2011

These videos will explain what my written words simply can’t. Guvernment’s annual Decadence party returned in a big way earlier this morning, and these videos are the living proof from the Kool Haus stage. The first video is a nice snippet of the highly anticipated collaboration between Rynecologist and Brodinski (played by Tiga), which goes by the name Steel Brothers, set to come out on Turbo. The next Tiga vid contains a track that, out of respect to the label, we will not divulge (wow), and lastly, heaven only knows what tune Boys Noize was playing (bottom of the three). Simply put, what an evening.

Perpetual Thoughts

April 15, 2011

We’ve long documented the well-deserved success of the Toronto-based, BNR super-stud, Rynecologist, both through his previous mixes, his unparalleled tunes, and his charitable deeds. We managed to catch up with him less than a week ago at the Brodinski show, and homeboy was as humble and jovial as ever — humble and jovial, with a crate full of exclusive heaters that merked the Queen West patrons that evening. Today his legacy continues with the third installation of his Still Thinking mixtape series. The tracklist is still pending, but that just makes the listening experience that much more rewarding, with a whole slew of treats in there from the BNR, and Turbo vaults. Grab this one, and support one of TO’s most promising electronic mavericks.

Yearning For Miami

March 1, 2011

Today is officially March 1st, meaning that March DJ charts are flying everywhere, and much more importantly, our jaunt to Miami is no more than twenty-three days in the future. Yes, aside from the fact that the usually collaborative forces of WMC & ULTRA have split forces (for the worse), we’re confident that late-March will provide us with a hectic seven days of music-related ruckus, regardless of the festival’s hashtag. We’re also going to step up our media coverage this year, providing you a steady stream of daily content, including: the odd live to air radio session, daily videos, more pictures, and of course, breaking the biggest tunes to the world, when they happen. And who knows, hopefully we can arrange for a special interview or two (currently in the works).

We land on Wednesday March 23rd, just in time to catch the tail end of the Recession Session Pool Party with Art Department, Dubfire, A-Trak & several others. From there, we mission to the recently announced Night Slugs Party being organized by Toronto’s own Embrace at Eve, formally known as the famous White Room. One of the best vibe venues in Miami will welcome Night Slugs label boss Bok Bok, as well as Girl Unit, Kingdom and more threads from the same cloth.

We know that Thursday afternoon will be the sun-soaked affair at the Surfcomber when we hit up the People Like Us pool party, featuring the likes of Seth Troxler and Loco Dice. Thursday evening will be consumed by HARD Miami, being held at arguably the best venue I’ve ever been to, in Grand Central — featuring names like Tiga, Brodinski, Mehdi & Diplo, just to name a few. Also that night, Simian Mobile Disco will be playing the Delicacies Party alongside Rory Phillips at Eve, which should make for a convenient late-night stop, before we descend into the depths of an early morning affair at Space, with Loco Dice and Marco Carola.

Friday it appears as though the main event on our docket will be the first segment of Sunday School: The Lost Weekend, which will feature two separate stages, both equally enticing — one with Boysnoize Records artists (ie. Boys Noize, Tiga, Djedjotronic, DIM), and the other with Minus Records artists (ie. Richie Hawtin, Magda, Marco Carola). After that, it’s off to Electric Pickle for the Crosstown Rebels Get Lost party, which will feature Konrad Black, Dan Ghenacia, Maceo Plex, Lee Foss and a very long list of other talented dudes.

Saturday afternoon and evening are still somewhat up in the air, with some big name parties still to be announced. We do have the comfort of knowing that the Trouble & Bass party, and Busy-P’s Let The Children Techno party, are both strong possibilities for the evening hours, but no one could ever predict how whacky the Saturday can end up being.

Sunday evening, Electric Pickle will be hosting the Hot Natured Miami party, which will feature the likes of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Soul Clap, Art Department, Robert James and others. The big value-add will be the classic sets thrown down by legends MK, Scotty Deep and Craig Richards. This will be special.

Anything past Sunday we really haven’t given much thought to, but as we mentioned, this is all subject to change seeing as we are still eagerly anticipating the Sound Pellegrino Miami announcement, which Teki will be making in the coming days, as well as the Discobelle announcement. Saturday the 26th is bound to pack more than a couple surprises, and who knows, we might just end up on a stage in front of thousands again.

Enjoy one of the latest remixes from disco sensation Rory Phillips (who will be playing on Thursday the 24th with Simian Mobile Disco at Eve), to set that indescribable, feel-good, Miami mood.

Gold Jubilee

September 22, 2010

Yesterday, I decided to step outside the ordinary menu. Today however, is a celebration of a label, and a sound, that is right up our alley. A couple days back, Boys Noize Recordings released BNR050, their 50th extended play record, marking the Gold Jubilee of their existence, and how better to make it a memorable release than by enlisting label boss, Mr. Alex Ridha, aka Boys Noize himself.

The two track masterpiece must be considered a split personality EP. The A-side, entitled 1010, is pure and unremitting acid techno with a bassline that could probably inflict bodily injury if heard at the right decibel. It’s dark and belligerent the whole way through, and reminds me of one of Bordello‘s afterhour sets, in one of our finest local darkrooms. Whereas the B-side, entitled Yeah, offers something much different, something much more jubilant, gratified and housey. The tune has some obvious similarities to Puzique’s timeless track Don’t Go with the bassline harmony doing the majority of the work. This one is really easy to listen to, and even easier to fall in love with.

All in all, this is a great opportunity to pause and reflect about the state of electronic music. With Boys Noize Recordings now at fifty EPs in their catalogue, Turbo Recordings on the cusp of 100, and labels like Dirtybird, Made to Play, Deadfish, Sound Pellegrino, Get The Curse, Wolf+Lamb, and others all climbing toward notoriety, it would be silly to suggest that EDM is dead, dying, or the like.

I Am Europe

August 2, 2010

The latest edition to the Boysnoize Records catologue is a release from electronic music’s misfit maestro, known as Chilly Gonzales. Part pianist, part composer, part rapper, part producer, part actor, part director, part self-absorbed drama queen — Gonzales is one of the most unique and identifiable personalities in electronic music today. Moreover, his allegiance with Boy Noize goes further than this EP, as the two have collaborated on Chilly’s upcoming full-length album, with Alex lending a helpful hand in the production room.

The I Am Europe EP release that we’re flaunting, features a very classic original version by Gonzales, in addition to some ingenius remixing by Claude von Stroke, and others. One of the others is Boysnoize Record’s thrash-techno prodigy, Djedjotronic, a dude who we’ve bragged about before. His adaptation of the track combines some very cool minimal elements off the start, with some more traditional French funked-out groove later on, and a side-order of Gonzales’ distorted vocal (for better or worse). Bottom line, we’re continuing to endorse Djedjo as one of the most talented young dj/producers in the world, and the fact that he was able to showcase this on a Gonzales track makes for some good writing/reading/listening.

Could It Be?

April 11, 2010

This little ditty comes from a Housemeister set, and eventually a Housi and Boys Noize tag-team that went down in Melbourne, Australia just about two weeks ago, at Billboard. The speculation has obviously exploded since the vid surfaced, and this is what we know — it’s almost definitely not new Boys Noize, or anything out of the Boys Noize Recordings camp, leaving a fairly narrow list of options. Of course, the natural question that arises when a track surfaces that is this exclusive, and this well produced — could it be new Justice? We’ve already swung for the fences, and struck-out hard trying to pin-point the next Justice track, so we’re timid to go out on a limb here, but it’s certainly fun to dream. For now, just revel in this one-and-a-half minute clip, and let us know if you’re feeling it.

Grand Central

March 30, 2010

Three separate video clips from the Saturday night party at Grand Central featuring Sinichi Osawa, Afrojack, Brodinski, Erol Alkan, and Boys Noize. The vids do the talking, so we don’t really have much to say, except to shout out the three guys above for being such great dudes — quite possibly the three best DJs in the world.

HARD Party

March 25, 2010

In just a couple of hours, this quaint aquatic paradise will host the widely-renowned Hard Pool Party, which will feature the likes of Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, Busy P, Mehdi, Fake Blood, Aeroplane and too many more to mention. The glimmering venue pictured above is literally our next door neighbor, the ultra-chic Fontainebleau Hotel. Though the sun is well from full blaze, we’re looking at daytime highs in the twenty-eight degree range, with minimal cloud accumulation. Just in case you don’t believe us, peep a twitpic taken by Boys Noize Recordings artist Housemeister just moments ago.

Enough with the nostalgic scene illustration, let’s get to the latest work from the aforementioned Housemeister, and his track featured on the Miami Noize Sampler. The track is fittingly called Famous, as the stars have unquestionably come out this weekend. The track itself builds nicely, with a distinct arpeggiator throughout, climaxing with some psycho synths. (Also, don’t fret over the small meg size, the track is certainly 320kbps).
