Drop The Lime

Friday leaves a bit to be desired in terms of big name pull, so we’d recommend you direct your attention to Saturday evening, with some large scale events covering the entire map of electronic music. Local dubstep heroes Zed’s Dead continue their global dubstep dominance headlining the lastest Digital for their Rudeboy tour, alongside the likes of Drop The Lime, Canblaster & several others, including local acts The Killabits & Torro Torro. Also, established heavyweights like Guy Gerber (Footwork) and Desyn Masielo (The Social) have quietly been booked as well, but our best bet is the Com Truise show which is set to go down at Wrongbar.

In case the above photo has left you a tad befuddled, this week is Fashion week here in Toronto, with some of the most influential names of this fine craft descending upon our fair city to showcase the latest trends. We like to think of ourselves as well-dressed, fashionable, good-looking kids, but at the same time, we don’t want to get it twisted. The trends we try to convey are expressed through bass and treble, so let’s get to the most notable events set for this weekend. Plainly speaking, we have a loaded couple of days ahead of us, with big name headliners stealing the show on each evening. Look out for names like Booka Shade (Thursday), Brodinski (Friday) , Drop The Lime (Saturday) and Alex Metric (Saturday), just to name a few. The most promising of which would have to be the much-anticipated return of Brodinski, who remains a top DJ act in the world, and (if you’ll remember) treated Wrongbar to a real spectacle earlier this year.

For our new readers…

What’s Good Wednesday!? (–proper noun) pronounced: whatsgoodwednesday
1. A very useful and reliable resource that proceeds to document Toronto’s electronic music events each and every weekend, 2. A weekly post that can be found exclusively on electroTO, 3. The highlight of many people’s Wednesday afternoon/evening.

On to the good stuff…

As if the incredible emergence of warmer climes isn’t enough, the city is featuring a very nice assembly of events this weekend which will allow you to take full advantage. Heavy Bass Champion

February 23, 2010

The track below will have a lot of people divided. You will either love it or hate it and that doesn’t mean that either feeling towards it will stay that way for very long. Off Trouble & Bass’ “Heavybass Champions of the World Vol I”, Doomsday Device has Drop the Lime going in a new direction. There are no vocals, there is no wobbling bass – only a jacking party tune that is so in tune with the kind of music that he likes to throw down in his sets. It’s been floating around for a while and we sat on it as we were a bit unsure what you’d think about it but we’ve decided to put decision up to you.

Drop the Lime is just one of the many producers that seems to be switching up their style a little as of late, which is just as well because our ears are always on high alert for something with a fresh sound regardless of who’s pumping it out. It still has a little bit of filth at the bottom end for the heavy bass lovers, but the main high pitched frequencies is what will either make you love this track or drop it from the playlist after your first listen. Here’s to artists branching out and to listeners doing the same. Try this one on for size and see how you feel about the new, bass-reduced sound.

I’ve Seen The Devil

October 5, 2009

Drop The Lime

Today something that I’d been waiting for for quite some time finally arrived – the original mix of Devil’s Eyes (via the good people over at Discobelle.)

Ever since Drop the Lime graced our city in one of the most talent packed nights of the summer, spinning a set at what was an epic TRASH night and then at the after party with Blatta & Inesha and B. Sek, I’ve been waiting for this track. In fact, I must have asked him at least a hundred times that night when Devil’s Eyes was coming out and it’s finally here. For those of you who weren’t aware, not only does Luca produce fast paced bass sagas but he also lays down all his own vocals and sings over them in his live sets, which is truly a sight to be seen.

Devil’s Eyes is a testament to his ability as a vocalist and proof that he truly is an artist, giving affirmation that if it weren’t producing he’d definitely still be involved with music in some form and whatever form that would be would be just as good at it.

For those of you who were there and who have been haunted by the beauty of this one since that night enjoy this and for those of you who haven’t owe it to yourself even more to grab it below. By no stretch of the imagination is this a bass monster, it’s simply a work of art, but if it’s not your cup of tea the remixes of this one will be something to look forward to without a doubt.

electroTO Presents Drop The Lime

The Headliner: electroTO Presents TRASH Feat. Drop The Lime, Sat. @ Augusta House

For the second consecutive week, us here at electroTO have focused our attention on throwing one of the dopest parties in the city. If you weren’t able to tear the roof off with us and Jokers of the Scene last weekend, you’re going to want to alter your decision making process and check out one of the craziest/hardest electro acts in existence, Drop The Lime. This week we are proud to announce the valuable support of Toronto electro-scene boss Cody LeKush, as well as our friends over at The Mansion. This means the place will be packed to the mo’fuckin rafters, so get there early for the cheap dranks. (Psst…keep your ear to the ground for some post-event madness)

The Opener: Azari & III, Violca, YPro, Mr. Charlton & DJ Cal, Fri. @ Mod Club

Our friends at FAK really know how to put together a world-class bill. This Friday at the Mod Club, they’re hosting their “Voyeur” party with a long list of local talent, clearly outlined above. The most notable act on the list is the Toronto-based duo Azari & III, who in my humble estimation are two of the most underrated cats in the scene. Their original productions are ridiculous, and their live sets known to be equally skillful. Moreover, with close to 6000 Facebook invites on the event page, we’d recommend you creep through the Mod Club doors early, and check out each of these fine disc jockeys from beginning to end.

The Opener: Blatta & Inesha, Sat. @ The Social

It pains us that two of our favorite Italian DJ’s are in town the same night as Drop The Lime (another Italian talent), but hey, that’s just the way it is. Quite simply, Blatta & Inesha will throw it down Saturday, and permanently induced deafness is not out of the question. Our friends at The Faktory are the brains behind this operation, and they have promised a couple nifty maneuvers for the after-party, which is set to take place at Studio 204 (Queen & Spadina). All I can say is, this is going to be a Saturday evening for the ages.

The Opener: Golden Gloves & Medley, Thurs. @ Strangelove

There is no better way to start your weekend than with electroTO favorites, Ben and Kevin, of the DJ tandem Golden Gloves. Their original productions have been well documented on this space, and their live acts have been well recorded on our live Twitter feed. Bottom line, these guys know how to dominate a dancefloor, no matter the occassion — The Jon’s weekly DLYF event seems like a match made in electronic heaven. Don’t sleep on your Thursday, head down to College and rock out with our homeboys.

See You Saturday,

The Vamp
