Today, it is with great pleasure that we are unveiling our third annual Producing For Presents charity EP, a yearly holiday initiative which enlists our most beloved local DJs to produce compositions of electronic dance music, and sell them in an attempt to raise money for a charitable cause. We crafted this idea way back in 2009, executed the project again in 2010, and here we are today, with arguably the strongest line-up yet. Like the two preceding years, all proceeds will be donated to the Heart House Hospice, a local charity which will ultimately use the donations to purchase Christmas presents for children in less fortunate circumstances.

Incredible and infinite thank yous must go out to our talented contributors including Max & Zach of Prince Club, Meech, John Roman, Todd & Will of Tsuka, Gold’N'Grams, Poupon, Gaunt, Colin Alexander, Vlsonn, and our two mysterious festive contributors, Sugarplum Fairies and Saddam Antler. Again your tireless work has paid immediate dividends, and we’re excited to see how much money we can raise this year, after coming within dollars of 1000 last year. Also, special shouts to the likes of Michel Fournier (Meech), Ben Rosenberg (Poupon) and John Roman, who have all contributed in P4P001 right through to P4P003 — endless gratitude for your donations.

For the third year in succession, Nasty Nav and the folks at Wrongbar have been kind enough to open their doors to us and host the annual EP release party on Saturday December 17th. The docket of artists looks more of a Toronto-based festival line-up rather than a one-off, but you certainly won’t see us complaining. Vouchers to download the EP will be made available on the night of the event, but we highly suggest you check out our Bandcamp page where you can purchase the entire collection for a minimum of $15 via PayPal. Your donation can be infinite.

Tracklist:

Finally, Saturday evening, some of Toronto’s finest will be unearthing a 20 year-old cinema, a late night affair that will include the likes of Jokers of the Scene, Gingy and some secret appearances as well. Another option is the Discobelle duo of Meati & Meech alongside local kid Wenzell at Wrongbar.

Our New Era

January 30, 2011

This has been a fairly important forty-eight hours here at electroTO headquarters (major understatement). We’ve undergone significant changes right under your noses, and unless you proceed to sift through our massive back-catalog of posts, you may never know the true extent of these changes. At a basic level, all problematic mediafire links (from today all the way back to our humble beginnings) have been unceremoniously taken down. By problematic, we mean links that have previously provided tracks that are simultaneously being sold for profit by a record label. We’re happy to say that we have not been prompted to do this by any external authority; rather, we’ve always been firm believers in supporting labels, and at last, we’ve come to our senses to do this purge, completely on our own.

What does this mean? What does the future hold?  Will electroTO be music-less?

Absolutely not. Music will always and forever be at the forefront of our content/posts; however, instead of exploiting high-quality music from our most admired artists, we will be exploring different avenues to support the arrival of new music, while satisfying the consumer’s insatiable desire for the newest tracks and the latest releases. Whether it be strictly streaming new music on our page through our convenient new play/pause icon, whether it be linking to soundclouds, or whether it be dishing you tracks for download that have been explicitly given to us for the purpose of sharing — we will certainly find ways to numb your ears drums. Here’s a preview of how we will be hosting all new tracks for download.

One more item for discussion will be our renewed focus on the EDM talent in Toronto, and its surrounding areas. We have dozens of kids all on the verge of massive electronic projects on a global level, and we’re excited to be the news source that diligently tracks the progress and development of these local acts. Check below for some of the latest musical updates from some of our favorites.

Thanks for hearing us out here, and we’re very excited about the future.

Romania

January 16, 2011

Way back when we first cut the ribbon on this blog, there were a couple local acts that we were especially keen on aligning ourselves with. Budding talents that we knew were on the verge of something big, both on the decks, and in the studio. John Roman was on the forefront of that list, and our early support (one, two, three, four) certainly speaks to John’s consistency, and evolution as a producer. Almost two years later, the hard work has certainly paid off for Roman.

All of us here at electroTO would like to warmly congratulate John on the release of his Sing! EP, which dropped on Idiot House Records just yesterday. We have a very deep and emotional attachment to this tune, as it first appeared on our inaugural Producing For Presents EP release, from two Christmases ago. We knew way back then that this one was special, and trust that we weren’t the only ones, with huge support from the likes of Brodinski, NT89, LA Riots, Supabeatz and many more.

For those of you that missed Sing! on our charity album more than a year ago, John has been kind enough to share with us a 192k version of the tune that is garnering so much hype right now. Please be sure to make your way to Beatport to purchase the full 320k of the track, as well as other highly touted John Roman originals like Akabna and Golden Cat.

Chalk this one up as another huge win for local electronic music, and with Roman’s Sala EP on the burner, Meati & Meech’s Discobelle EP on the way, and a massive release in the pipeline from Gingy & Bordello, this is going to be a special year for Toronto EDM.

Today, Friday December 3rd, marks a very important day here at electroTO. We are unveiling our second annual Producing For Presents charity EP, a yearly holiday initiative which enlists our most beloved local DJs to produce tracks and sell them in an attempt to raise money for a charitable cause. Indeed, like last year, all proceeds will be donated to the Heart House Hospice, a local charity which will ultimately use the donations to purchase Christmas presents for children in less fortunate circumstances. Once again, Wrongbar has been kind enough to open its doors to us and host an EP release party on December 18th, featuring all of our closest DJ comrades.

As you will see, the EP is a giant leap from last year’s edition, with nine original compositions, all at the pinnacle of their respective genres. The entire collection can be purchased for $10 via PayPal on our bandcamp page, which we’ve linked below. These producers have worked tirelessly to put forth these tracks out of the goodness of their heart, and your purchasing them will only solidify these efforts. Certainly, the holiday season is a time to rejoice with friends and family, but we must also be conscious of those who literally cannot afford that luxury. Thanks for your support. Peace & Love, eTO familia.

November 24, 2010

Really excited about this upcoming weekend, with a whole ton of options, options, options, dispersed evenly throughout all three evenings. Some very cool Canadian content kicks it all off on Thursday night at The Drake with The Mole, alongside fellow canucks Nacho Lovers. Look for the dark vibes here, with the finest in murky house and daunting techno. Friday introduces a whole ‘nother level with the likes of Tiga at the Mod Club, alongside techno’s black sheep, Fuhgahzi Bordello. Other Friday options include Sydney Blu and Shapeshifters. Saturday goes just as hard with Felix Cartal, Poupon and Gingy at The Faktory’s Saturday. Also, Nocturne will host the start of the Bully parties with the likes of Bombaman, Brandon Sek and a bunch more.
