Today, it is with great pleasure that we are unveiling our third annual Producing For Presents charity EP, a yearly holiday initiative which enlists our most beloved local DJs to produce compositions of electronic dance music, and sell them in an attempt to raise money for a charitable cause. We crafted this idea way back in 2009, executed the project again in 2010, and here we are today, with arguably the strongest line-up yet. Like the two preceding years, all proceeds will be donated to the Heart House Hospice, a local charity which will ultimately use the donations to purchase Christmas presents for children in less fortunate circumstances.

Incredible and infinite thank yous must go out to our talented contributors including Max & Zach of Prince Club, Meech, John Roman, Todd & Will of Tsuka, Gold’N'Grams, Poupon, Gaunt, Colin Alexander, Vlsonn, and our two mysterious festive contributors, Sugarplum Fairies and Saddam Antler. Again your tireless work has paid immediate dividends, and we’re excited to see how much money we can raise this year, after coming within dollars of 1000 last year. Also, special shouts to the likes of Michel Fournier (Meech), Ben Rosenberg (Poupon) and John Roman, who have all contributed in P4P001 right through to P4P003 — endless gratitude for your donations.

For the third year in succession, Nasty Nav and the folks at Wrongbar have been kind enough to open their doors to us and host the annual EP release party on Saturday December 17th. The docket of artists looks more of a Toronto-based festival line-up rather than a one-off, but you certainly won’t see us complaining. Vouchers to download the EP will be made available on the night of the event, but we highly suggest you check out our Bandcamp page where you can purchase the entire collection for a minimum of $15 via PayPal. Your donation can be infinite.

Each stop will also highlight specific local talent, with the Montreal date providing a guest appearance by Zubi. The tour kicks off on Wednesday September 7th at Jack‘s in London, and finishes off ten days later at Ritual in Ottawa. We would encourage you to have a look at the complete listing below with the dates, venues and promotional partners all laid out for careful consideration.

Podcast Perfection

May 27, 2011

While you were sleeping, our friend Meech was taking over Paris by way of the Sound Pellegrino Podcast. If you haven’t heard already, our good friends Michel Fournier & Todd Schlattman aka Meati assembled the latest mix (the 26th installment) for the Parisian digital super-label run by Teki Latex & Orgasmic. The Podcast is available through itunes, as well as the refurbished Sound Pellegrino website, and features a tracklist chocked full of Meati & Meech production, as well as a steady stream of local talent. Previous podcast sessions have included mini mixes from renowned names like Renaissance Man and French Fries, and now you can add our favorite duo to the list.

The mix itself was recorded at the humble studio of our good friend Doctor Vince, amongst the entire electroTO crew, where the ambiance was fueled by unremitting excitement, and an endless supply of prune aperitif. Plainly speaking, this is a giant step for Toronto’s notoriety on the electronic map; one of the biggest and most relevant podcasts in the world, featuring two familiar faces. Check out the mix below, and keep an eye out for names like Zuluhuupz, John Roman, Urulu, Milt Mortez & more.

Tracklist:

01 Milt Mortez “Astoria” [CDr]
02 Urulu “So What” [Get Flavor]
03 Zuluhuupz “Papaya” [CDr]
04 John Roman “Akabna” (Meati’s Bushweed Remix) [Idiot House]
05 Meati “Air Jamaica” [CDr]

Favela

December 7, 2010

As if their recent involvement in our Producing For Presents EP initiative wasn’t enough, now they have a track available through Juno Download. Yes indeed, Mr. Michel Fournier (Meech) and Mr. Todd Schlattman (Meati) have come together once again, and on this occasion it’s for something far more foreign than we’re used to from this duo. The track is called Favela, and has been released in concert with the people at Discobelle. Along with the track itself, Discobelle has also featured the duo’s latest mix, entitled, 23° 32′ 0″ S / 46° 37′ 0″ W, showcasing some unreleased work, as well as some timeless gems.

Apparently Favela was dropped at a Montreal afterhours this past weekend, and was well-received by some shocked Brazilian girls, and some hardstyle jacking. Grab this piece while it’s hot (available over the next 24 hours only), and keep your ear to the ground for more from Meati & Meech, as they are just beginning to embark on their meaningful relationship with the guys over at Discobelle Records (hint, hint).

Today, Friday December 3rd, marks a very important day here at electroTO. We are unveiling our second annual Producing For Presents charity EP, a yearly holiday initiative which enlists our most beloved local DJs to produce tracks and sell them in an attempt to raise money for a charitable cause. Indeed, like last year, all proceeds will be donated to the Heart House Hospice, a local charity which will ultimately use the donations to purchase Christmas presents for children in less fortunate circumstances. Once again, Wrongbar has been kind enough to open its doors to us and host an EP release party on December 18th, featuring all of our closest DJ comrades.

As you will see, the EP is a giant leap from last year’s edition, with nine original compositions, all at the pinnacle of their respective genres. The entire collection can be purchased for $10 via PayPal on our bandcamp page, which we’ve linked below. These producers have worked tirelessly to put forth these tracks out of the goodness of their heart, and your purchasing them will only solidify these efforts. Certainly, the holiday season is a time to rejoice with friends and family, but we must also be conscious of those who literally cannot afford that luxury. Thanks for your support. Peace & Love, eTO familia.

Sexual Sportswear

November 1, 2010

What an intriguing start to the week for Toronto-based DJ tandem Meati and Meech. It’s been no secret that these two have been relentlessly putting together new productions in the lab, and today, their work has finally begun to pay off. Electronic superblog Discobelle and Nike Sportwear Sweden have teamed up in an effort to “honour Nordic DJ-culture” and provide promising DJs, Producers and record labels an opportunity to shine. It’s a really interesting initiative and Nike’s first real step toward acknowledging the electronic music listener as a target consumer. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more explicit attempts from Nike to make good with this demographic, whether it be mixtapes, EPs or Nike sponsored festivals.

More importantly, pay special attention around the 3 minute and 40 second mark where you can hear the world premiere of Meech and Meati’s Bock. The track really masters the snake-charmer sample while keeping the percussion and the harmony clean. Be sure to keep your ear to the ground for more from this duo, as labels keep knocking.

We kinda alluded to this already, but seriously, how is it already September? Yet, another warm summer of good friends, good cheer and good music has passed us by, and now fall is right around the corner. We’re proud to say that electroTO‘s summer will last a couple more weeks, as we slowly unveil the final chapter of our Summer Sessions Live Mix Series. This final installment was recorded in concert with The Faktory, at our Social Thursday collaboration, which featured the likes of Meech, Golden Gloves (Poupon), Bordello, and of course, our guest of honour, Camel (Deadfish UK). As has been the case with all of our Summer Sessions, this one showcases a bunch of new production from our family of artists, some risky mixing, and a result that is seamless. Be sure to stay tuned until the very end, for our exclusive mix with Camel.

GOLDEN GLOVES | electroTO Summer Sessions: Volume IV

This mix provides us with yet another chapter in the constant and steady aural evolution of Golden Gloves. It’s important to note that this specific mix showcases a very significant hardware change, as Ben has opted to move away from the reliable CDJ-Serato set up, taking matters into his own hands (or ears) with a straight CDJ arrangement. Regardless of the equipment modification, the mixing was on-point as usual, showcasing a very nice selection of languid house tracks, all paving the way for the eventual arrival of Camel. A couple notable cuts to pay particular attention to include work from labels like Dirtybird, Play it Down, and Snatch!.

MEECH | electroTO Summer Sessions: Volume IV

Let’s be honest, it’s rare to see Michel Fournier aka Meech behind the decks before 11pm, but on Thursday August 26th, it was his turn to serve in that role. Although we were curious as to how he would handle it, we weren’t surprised when our homie managed to put together one of his best live mixes to date, one that we’re genuinely feeling, and bumping in our own audio contraptions. It all starts off at a subtle 116bpm with the brilliant Bostro Pesopeo remix of Sally Shapiro’s Love In July. From there, it’s a melodic journey through the finest in low-bpm house, techno, and those in between, finally ending off in the 125bpm neighbourhood, with Sussuro (5am Mix) , one of many projects Meech has taken up with Faceless Management newcomer, Meati.
