Rynecologist

Today, Friday December 3rd, marks a very important day here at electroTO. We are unveiling our second annual Producing For Presents charity EP, a yearly holiday initiative which enlists our most beloved local DJs to produce tracks and sell them in an attempt to raise money for a charitable cause. Indeed, like last year, all proceeds will be donated to the Heart House Hospice, a local charity which will ultimately use the donations to purchase Christmas presents for children in less fortunate circumstances. Once again, Wrongbar has been kind enough to open its doors to us and host an EP release party on December 18th, featuring all of our closest DJ comrades.

As you will see, the EP is a giant leap from last year’s edition, with nine original compositions, all at the pinnacle of their respective genres. The entire collection can be purchased for $10 via PayPal on our bandcamp page, which we’ve linked below. These producers have worked tirelessly to put forth these tracks out of the goodness of their heart, and your purchasing them will only solidify these efforts. Certainly, the holiday season is a time to rejoice with friends and family, but we must also be conscious of those who literally cannot afford that luxury. Thanks for your support. Peace & Love, eTO familia.

What’s Good Wednesday!?

September 22, 2010

Yes, we’re sad to see TIFF go as well, but look at the bright side, dress code requirements will return to normalcy, low-cut v-neck/blazer combos will be reduced by approximately 94%, and pornstars will go back to getting blasted, as opposed to blasting tunes at well-respected venues. We jest, we jest (or do we?); all in all, TIFF was a great time, and we must thank all the promoters who worked double time to bring in some truly spectacular names, most notably Footwork, who were able to snag Tim Green, Popof, among others. This week offers another delectable docket of events, with Saturday being the most appealing of the trio. For all of you in London, be sure to check out a star-studded cast on Sunday night which includes young guns like Neoteric, John Roman, Gingy and Milt Mortez.

Vaporizer

August 7, 2010

One Toronto-based duo has made it their vocation to bring techno to the masses. Tonight marks a very important night in the lives of both Gingy & Bordello, and it doubles as an opportunity for all electronic music fans in Toronto to rejoice as well. Tonight, of course, is the Vaporizer EP Release Party at the often-imitated, never-duplicated, Faktory Saturday, hosted at The Social (1100 Queen Street West). A celebration of masterful production, incomparable deejaying, and a much anticipated release on August 13th (Beatport).

Vaporizer is a single that has floated around exclusive circles since it was originally produced in the fall of 2009, gradually picking up steam, and eventually making appearances on several notable mixes, including Brodinski’s widely acclaimed Mystery Mix Volume II. The track was soon picked up by UK-based record-label This Is Music, the taste-makers responsible for the release of DJ Mujava’s Township Funk, as well as Boy 8-Bit’s two latest EPs.

This marks a huge breakout for both Gingy & Bordello, and also represents a giant leap in Toronto’s unfaltering climb toward electronic relevance, on a global stage. With dudes like Rynecologist garnering international attention on BNR, Ed Banger (and soon to be Turbo), we’re finally beginning to see some much-deserved international acclaim for our local talent. On that note, be sure to check the preview of the Rynecologist remix, as well as the original, directly below.

EP Tracklist:

A1: Gingy & Bordello – Vaporizer (Original Mix)
A2: Gingy & Bordello – Partikal (Original Mix)
B1: Gingy & Bordello – Vaporizer (Rynecologist Remix)

This weekend kicks off with a resounding clap, nu-disco style, with In Flagranti poised to hit the decks at Wrongbar, and bring the dfloor to a simmer. No doubt this is a rare opportunity to witness one of the unquestioned biggest names in the disco resurgence, made so popular in 2009. The weekend continues with a massive tribute to Toronto’s electronic music scene at The Great Hall (equipped with a tantalizing after-party line-up), as well as a star-studded cast at Mod-Club. Finally, Saturday, the main event  in our humble eyes is the much anticipated release party for Gingy & Bordello’s “Vaporizer” EP. This one has the makings of a serious bender.

No doubt, some of you must still be feeling the effects of last weekend’s festivities, but we wouldn’t recommend that you take this weekend solstice to catch up on rest. With names like Ghosts of Venice, Rynecologist, Autoerotique, South Rakkas, and Round Table Knights all playing various venues in the city,  the line-up this weekend does not disappoint. You will most certainly see us lurking The Social on Saturday for Round Tizzy’s Canadian premier — really really good.

Much like the photo above, this weekend’s compilation of talent is sky-high, off the charts, or just “really good”. Perhaps the two events that have the most intrigue for us, would be the appearance of Aeroplane (Vito) @ Wrongbar on the Thursday night, and Zombie Disco Squad @ The Social on the Saturday night. Both of these bookings provide some really special international talent (the first of which is nu disco, and the latter, some of the finest gangster house), that don’t come around every weekend. Friday, be sure to take an opportunity to support a wide selection of local-talent jams going down at familiar venues like Mod Club, Wrongbar, Andy Poolhall, and the list goes on. Enjoy!

We’re kicking off this weekend’s festivities with a very cool initiative thrown together by our homies at The Faktory. Saturday night, Mightyfools are in town at the Social, alongside Torro Torro and DMT — a very nice bill. The Faktory wants to hook you up with a pair of tickets, and we’re the lucky ones who get to give them away. So, to keep this as simple as possible, be the first to read our What’s Good Wednesday!? post, and submit a comment at the bottom. The first person to submit a comment, will be the rightful claimant of the tickets. Also, be sure to peep this weekend’s list of events as well, enjoy!

Pixar House

March 31, 2010

If you’ve heard or seen a series of mass explosions in the Toronto area, don’t fret, it’s just our homie Rynecologist blowing up on electronic music’s international stage. Let us assure you, we’re not using the term “blowing up” simply for rhetorical effect — with releases on Ed Banger Records and Boys Noize Records, Rynecologist has solidified his spot among the biggest names in electronic music production. Of course, tack on Ryne’s forthcoming official remix of Boys Noize’s “Kontact Me” and it appears as though this humble kid is launching into the upper echelon’s of the house music atmosphere.

Today we are seizing a rare opportunity to provide you all with some of Ryne’s top-notch work. The track on display is the Rynecologist remix of the internet hit “Upular” — a work originally by POGO, comprised of intricately placed samples from Disney/Pixar’s animated film Up. Ryne rearranges the piece flawlessly, and our homeboy jclay23 said it perfectly, “I can’t help but smile while listening to this song”. Be sure to see what the fuss is about, and peep the link below!
