Stalker Humanoid

November 11, 2011

Stalker Humanoid, another single from Renaissance Man’s widely celebrated Renaissance Man Project LP, just recently received a pretty eerie video treatment, directed by the duo themselves, produced by Martti Kalliala & Ville Haimala. Analytical comments aside, this was one of my hands-down favorite tunes on the album, and begs the question, is there really anything better than grooving to gangster house dressed as a wookie made of forest-moss? The answer is, no.

International Affair

October 16, 2011

After a weekend of being charmed by the finest that the French capital had to offer, we must take a moment now to catch you up on some of the going-ons both domestically, and abroad.

To briefly recap things on our end, Saturday was a celebration of the highest order, as we bared witness to teen heartthrob Brodinski carrying out his residential duties at Paris’ Social Club; only this time, it was on the cusp of his FABRICLIVE60 release, which we warned you of a little while back. The night was an unquestioned success, with everything from the debuting of Brodi’s brand new line of merch, to the redeeming performance of TWR72, to the masterful display from the man himself — overseeing an overcapacity crowd, no less.

Even beyond our attendance, it was an explicitly Toronto affair Saturday evening, with intersecting Canadian themes unfolding and unwinding throughout. The most obvious of which, was the always bashful appearance of Rynecologist, who is actually set to play Social Club this upcoming Thursday for The CameRoscope, alongside Style of Eye and Jan Driver. Ryne has, and will continue to be touring Europe for the next two months, jumping back and forth between France & Germany, among other destinations.

BUT, Rynecologist surely isn’t the only Toronto-based EDM act making international moves at the moment, as Faceless Management folk Poupon & Meech have both announced fall European tours of their own. These two came up over and over in conversation as the evening progressed, with Poupon’s latest release on DubNoir again garnering playlist consideration from Brodinski, and the incessant buzz surrounding the Cooked Up Volume 4 mixtape as well.

It is also significant to mention that Turbo Recording friends Gingy & Bordello have a massive month ahead of them as well, with confirmed gigs at Social Club alongside Azari & III, as well as a confirmed closing slot at Fabric alongside Brodinski, Gesaffelstein and several others — that being the official FABRICLIVE60 release party. This of course will be on the heals of their Twin Turbo release set to drop in the coming days, which I’m sure you’ll hear more about relatively soon.

The Toronto takeover is on.

Dance In Dark

September 8, 2011

Here’s a one-hour aural facsimile of an evening, that to this day, stands out as one of the strongest and most memorable real life musical displays we’ve ever witnessed. And we’re not being hyperbolic about this. Indeed, August 5th @ Le Belmont (Montreal) featured Turbo artists Bordello and Mike Mind, alongside Dance In Dark resident, Jordan Dare — a night that highlighted our summer of 2011. Here we present to you Bordello’s “dark and brooding opening set” from that very night, something well worth an hour of your time.

Vulkan Alarm!

August 19, 2011

Forthcoming ZZT (Tiga & Zombie Nation) single set for release on Turbo Recordings, September 3rd, 2011. Package believed to include a menacing adaptation by the Russian distortion God himself, Proxy, among others. A glaring example of how much you can really accomplish when you own more hardware than you know what to do with. Big ups to Thomas von Party for putting this motion picture together.

Manic

July 12, 2011

Larger than life quartet, Azari & III’s latest single Manic is on the cusp of being released, August seventh by way of friends at Turbo Recordings. The EP will of course feature the original work, set to appear on the group’s album (releasing this fall), alongside some top notch remix efforts by names like Maceo Plex, as well as two different renditions by one of our favorite producers, The Finger Prince.

Lucky for anyone with the ability to hear, just hours ago, Azari & III decided to upload both Finger Prince’s Static Situation Mix, and the Faded Sensation Dub to their Soundcloud page. Now, without going to hyperbolistic on you, we’ll just say we’d being doing a disservice to our own musical sympathies if we didn’t pass them your way.

Both remixes are brilliant, with the Faded Sensation approach going more in the direction of eery warehouse acid, while the Static Sensation approach maintains a much more brute techno approach, giving way to some rigid acid elements, and those ever-s0-charming vocals. The jury’s out on which of the two is better — we love ‘em both. Oh, and before you go, check out this montage of the crew doing their live performance in Lisbon, Portugal.

Dark Day

July 5, 2011

Today goes down as a distinctively dark (yet beautiful) day for the folks at Turbo Recordings, as release number one hundred & five, Terence Fixmer’s The Night EP hits all digital shelves, and welcomes a fresh face to the Turbo catalog — Minus Records’ Canadian techno titan, Mr.
Marc Houle.

Indeed, Houle graces the EP with a rendition of Fixmer’s title track, arguably elevating the piece to the level it deserves to reach, while catapulting Turbo’s techno street cred back where it deserves to reside. With much of the original in tact, Houle finds a way to confine Fixmer’s menacing elements into something altogether more comprehensible in the DJ booth, only to unleash a synth progression around the three minute mark that must have been inspired by Pazuzu tumbling down a K-hole. Don’t take that as an exaggeration either.

If you happen to be looking for more from this pair, look no further than our year-end LP chart, where we praised both Fixmer’s & Houle’s albums as some of 2010′s finest. Do yourself a favor, read up on those albums and get your hands ‘em if you haven’t already. In a phrase, both of these gentlemen are some of the most esteemed in the business, and their collaboration under one of our favorite banners is sort of a big deal round here.

Zzentury Mark

June 1, 2011

In case you haven’t heard, one of the labels that we damn near worship round these parts celebrated their centennial release earlier this week. Of course, we’re referring to Turbo Recordings, and ZZT’s Zzafrika remix package (selected soundcloud previews). With names like Julio Bashmore, Gesaffelstein, Crowdpleaser, Finger Prince, Tomas Andersson & Plein Soleil rounding up the docket of ten remixes, this one is more than fitting to take the crown for number one hundred. The global response has annointed Gesaffelstein’s treatment as the end all be all, but our flavour is something distinctly more plein. Cheers to the boys from Montreal for their astounding accomplishment; here’s to another hundred.

Decadent Display

April 22, 2011

These videos will explain what my written words simply can’t. Guvernment’s annual Decadence party returned in a big way earlier this morning, and these videos are the living proof from the Kool Haus stage. The first video is a nice snippet of the highly anticipated collaboration between Rynecologist and Brodinski (played by Tiga), which goes by the name Steel Brothers, set to come out on Turbo. The next Tiga vid contains a track that, out of respect to the label, we will not divulge (wow), and lastly, heaven only knows what tune Boys Noize was playing (bottom of the three). Simply put, what an evening.
